1. Coming to the Web: TV Commercials, With a Twist
------------------------------------------------------------

Not long ago, it sometimes took Web pages 30 seconds to load, thanks to
slow, dial-up connections over-burdened servers and inexperienced Web
design. Thanks to high-speed connections and rapidly evolving
technology, the days of slow-loading pages are gone. However, users
might want to get used to waiting 30 -- or 15, or 10 -- seconds to see
their chosen content.

2. Move Over B2B, B2C -- It's M2E Time
------------------------------------------------------------

The supply chain is fast, quick and cheap -- it just takes one call and
one quick delivery. It's like getting a pizza delivered to your home any
time or all the time. All you need is online access to the factory, and
voila! The goods are at your doorstep.

3. Bookings Boost Applied Materials Despite Profit Decline
------------------------------------------------------------

The world's largest maker of semiconductor capital equipment, Applied
Materials, predicted late yesterday that its orders in the current
business period would climb 5 percent to 10 percent above those reported
in its fiscal quarter ended July 31, leading to a rise in its stock by 6
percent earlier today.

4. AOL Launches Mobile Storefront
------------------------------------------------------------

Bidding to become a key entry way for the purchase of mobile services
and content, America Online has launched a mobile storefront that users
can customize to hold features designed for their phones and other hand-
held devices. Most of the features will be available to all Web users
and the site will rely heavily on personalization.

5. What to Do if Your E-Mail Is Blocked
------------------------------------------------------------

Without access to e-mail, many of us would cease to function. If you use
e-mail regularly, there is a 100 percent chance that some of the e-mails
you send or receive will be blocked. If such e-mails are not important
to you, then you might not notice. However, if those e-mails are
important, then inconvenience or anguish might result.

6. BellSouth Baits Broadband Customers With Napster
------------------------------------------------------------

In an aggressive move to entice dial-up surfers to upgrade to broadband
service, BellSouth announced a deal with Napster yesterday that the Baby
Bell hopes websters will find hard to refuse.

7. Interwoven Tames Unwieldy Web Sites
------------------------------------------------------------

Enterprise content management systems (CMS) do a fine job helping
business users update Web page text and rollback changes when necessary.
But that's just one facet of maintaining an engaging site.
Unfortunately, few tools currently exist for overseeing changes to
intricate applications such as shopping carts and Web-enabled self-help.

8. News Corp. Reportedly Eyeing Blinkx Buy
------------------------------------------------------------

Fresh off a social-networking buy, traditional media giant News Corp.
may be looking to further extend its online reach and has reportedly
moved to acquire search engine Blinkx, which has specialized in helping
users find music, video and other media online. Neither company would
comment, but several published reports say talks are under way about a
possible acquisition of Blinkx.

9. Will Microsoft Get a Bite of Apple's iPod?
------------------------------------------------------------

Legal experts and industry analysts highlighted the lengthy process and
potential hurdles to a Microsoft claim on the MP3 music organizer and
player, and indicated that an AppleInsider and subsequent reports make a
bigger story of what is standard patent procedure.

10. Sexual .xxx Domain Put on Hold
------------------------------------------------------------

The non-profit ICM Registry has agreed to delay implementing the sex-
content ".xxx" domain name amid growing concern by U.S. and other
government officials. An official with the administration of U.S.
President George Bush asked that the sexual domain be put on hold until
it can be studied further.
