Toshiba to Sell Industry's Next-Generation Hard Drive

Toshiba America is turning talk of the next generation of computer storage into reality by beginning shipments today of a Perpendicular Magnetic Recording hard drive, which the firm touts as the first on the market. PMR can squeeze up to 10 times more music, photos, spreadsheets or other data on an MP3 player or other device that uses a hard drive. That's because PMR stacks the digital data perpendicularly instead of horizontally. Just think, your next iPod, which uses Toshiba's 1.8-inch hard drives, could store 10 times more songs and still fit in your pocket.
